Swan River Foreshore
The Swan is a seemingly endless and gentle river intertwining the feet of beautiful Perth. Perth and the Swan are recognised as one in the same. The gentle river meets magnificent green parks, which hover below the beautifully towering expanse of the city. The swan meanders through land mass, separating the city from the southern suburbs. The Narrows Bridge opens the Swan to a large playground of water. Water vessels light up the river and range from yachts, to small outboards, to luxury liners, to catamarans.
Get active and enjoy the sparkling waters of Perth's Swan River where you can go sailing and fishing, or just relax beside its wide expanses. There are many opportunities to experience the river. Hire a surf cat, enjoy a river cruise, try your hand at twilight sailing, or go jet skiing. Throw in a fishing line and you are likely to be rewarded with bream, mulloway, tailor and a variety of other fish.
A notable feature on the Swan is Matilda Bay. The Mediterranean style building of the University of Western Australia is a magical image. The Bay also offers a swimming and picnic heaven for familles. Along the skirts of the river, marvel at affluent homes of architectural magnificence. The water is graced by elegant black swans; by which the Swan River was aptly named.
The South Perth and city foreshores provide pleasant walking and cycling trails framing magnificent views of the Swan River, Kings Park and Perth City.
On the city side of the river, a dual cycleway/walk trail takes you on a riverside jaunt between two bridges, which link the Swan River's south and north shores - the Narrows Bridge and the Causeway.
Bicycles can be hired just off Riverside Drive near the Causeway.
